O objetivo do Fundo é promover o empoderamento político e econômico das mulheres, duas áreas prioritárias do recém aprovado Plano Estratégico da agência da ONU (2012-2013).
O segundo edital do Fundo das Nações Unidas para a Igualdade de Gênero (2011-2012) estará aberto entre os dias 12 e 23 de março de 2012. Podem se inscrever organizações governamentais e da sociedade civil que possuam propostas inovadoras e impactantes, a fim de contribuir com o empoderamento das mulheres. O Fundo concederá financiamento às propostas escolhidas em países da África, América Latina e Caribe, Leste Europeu, Países Árabes, Ásia e Pacífico e Ásia Central.

The Fund for Gender Equality is pleased to announce the Call for Proposals for the second phase of its 2011–2012 grantmaking cycle. Proposals will be accepted for innovative programmes to help women achieve political and economic empowerment. The Fund will award multi-year grants ranging from USD 200,000 to USD 1 million for impact-oriented programmes around the world.

The Fund is currently inviting proposals from Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and Central Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean. The online application database will be open from 12 to 23 March 2012 (check back for the link), and grants will be announced in October 2012.
